Scope:
It is the intention of this specification to procure a chair for 24hour, 7
day week use. This chair is to be different from traditional
office chairs in that this chair is intended for 24 hour per day use,
seven days a week, not 8 hours per day, five days a week. Maximum
comfort and adjustment will be necessary while incorporating
ruggedness and repair ability to minimize long-term cost.
Description:
Chair must meet both ANSI/BIFMA standards and GSA Intensive Use Chair
Performance tests FNEW 83-269E.
Shape of chair back must conform to the "S" shape
of the spine to fully support occupant. To further
accommodate the user, a fully adjustable lumbar support shall be
incorporated. Lumbar shall be pneumatic and must be adjustable from a
seated position.
Adjustments shall include, but not be limited to, height and tilt adjustment
with ability to lock into upright position. Tilt control shall be
torsion bar, knee tilt chair control with weight tension adjustment.
Cylinder shall be certified to 100,000 adjustment cycles and filled to a
minimum of 500 Newtons.
Chair is to be equipped with a seven leg steel base
to add strength, balance and a 25% increase in the ease of mobility.
Seven-leg base must have stabilizer ring at joint for added strength. will be 60mm in diameter and be rated at a minimum of 165 pounds
each. (Anti-static may be specified as an option)
Armrests are to be C-loops, ergonomic
Imperial or Tuff Pads. ease of mobility. Arms are to be
independently adjustable in width and height without tools and removable
with a single thumbscrew. Imperial and Tuff armrests will be capable
of swinging out of the way to prevent damage to arms or furniture when
chair is pushed close to the work surface. (Arm type to be be
specified at time of purchase)
Construction:
Chair frame is to be manufactured of 10-gauge steel and to insure rugged
construction with as few moving parts as possible. No component of the
chair is to be constructed from wood. (Screws pulling loose from wood
construction does not allow repair where the screw is pulled out) Chair is
to have a minimum of foam cushioning. Foam is to be user replaceable
by removal of the seat covering material. All components of the chair
will attach by screw or Velcro, or snap to aid in future repair.
Suspension:
Chair suspension shall be a dynamic membrane suspension made from a high
strength "co-extruded" elastomeric filaments woven together with polyester
yarn and bonded and stretched over a defined ergonomic shape. The
membrane will distribute the weight equally over the seat surface and
keep the body relaxed with improved lower body circulation. The blood
flow restriction of standard foam and metal spring chairs will not be
acceptable. Suspension is to be guaranteed to maintain its shape and
resiliency for a minimum of 10 years.
Covers:
Chair covers must be able to be removed and replaced without tools in a
matter of minutes. Fabric to be incorporated with Nano-Pel™ technology
to offer superior stain and liquid repellency. Fabric must be able to
withstand 1,000,000 double mesh rub. It must meet fire code standard
CA-117. (color to be specified at time of order)
Warranty:
Chair must have an original manufacturer's warranty on mechanical components
to be free of defects in material and workmanship for at least six years
with maximum working capacity of 550 pounds. |
